2020 Legislative Update #9
July 1, 2020

Legislative Update: 6/19/2020

Legislators began the Special Session on June 1, which is expected to end on June 30. LRTA has carefully monitored the call for the Special Session. At the writing of this update, there are no bills filed that could impact retirement benefits. LRTA will continue to monitor the session for any fiscal considerations that could affect retirement or our benefit plan and provide updates to the membership as necessary.
We need to continue to remain vigilant as things continue to change throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. LRTA is preparing materials and programs for the future to help you navigate the political horizon and further understand proposals that could impact your retirement benefits.
During the Special Session, Gov. John Bel Edwards signed two bills into law. HB 8 (Return to Work – Rep. Ryan Bourriaque) has become Act No. 337, and HB 307 (Appropriates supplemental funds to paying down UAL – Rep. Jerome “Zee” Zeringue) has become Act No. 255. For more information on the new Return to Work law, click here to read our previous legislative update.
LRTA is committed to providing you with timely updates and quality service to the best of our abilities during this time. The staff is working and fighting for you, and we hope you are staying safe and healthy during this time.
Please stay safe at home until we meet again.

Regards,
Rodney R. Watson
LRTA Executive Director
