Road to a COLA

Thank you for your interest in embarking on the “Road to a COLA” for Louisiana’s retired teachers! Senate Bill 6 by Senator Ed Price will provide for a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment to retirees and beneficiaries of the Teachers’ Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL). 

Why should legislators support SB 6? Louisiana’s retired teachers have not received a COLA since 2016. In six years, inflation has rose to record highs. This much-needed COLA will preserve the purchasing power of the retiree. National and local research has shown retirees contribute to millions of dollars to their state economies. 

Retired teachers have worked hard and supported Louisiana’s students for many years in the classroom. They earned their benefits, and they need their benefits to sustain their overall quality of life. We would not be where we are today without a retired teacher leading the way.
