Unit Spotlight: Madison Parish RTA

Madison RTA has an extensive group of multi-talented teachers, both active and retired. As a group consisting of principles, coaches, military veterans and many other retirees from the school district, they are striving to connect with the past, present and future retirees in order to continuously expand their RTA. They collaborate to contribute towards furthering their city’s government, businesses, jobs, recreation and assist citizens within the community to make their lives and city a better place for the next generation.

Projects previously worked on include starting a scholarship fund for graduating high school students. Holding voter registration drives, serving on various boards/committees, participating in the beautification club, placing dumpsters for neighborhood clean ups, ministry outreach, career assistance for students, providing coaching assistance to athletes in the summer months, and lastly helping at the Academic Center for families and children.

As impressive as the level of involvement in these many projects is, they are only some of the things members are doing in the community. The key is to be able to lend a helping hand, while getting creative and being proactive in getting involved. This unit illustrates that even if retired, there always remains much work to be done!

Madison area RTA meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 3PM in the Allen C. Fisher Building located at 410 E. Askew St., Tallulah, LA. The next upcoming project includes planning a membership drive. All are welcome to join. Further information about this group can be found on the local high school’s website where invitation letters and envelopes to mail out to LRTA and TSRL are available.
