Freddy L. Rivers, District IX President and District President Representative

Mr. Freddy Rivers, from Rayville, LA, is a 1970 graduate of Eula D. Britton High School where he graduated as class Salutatorian.  After graduation, he attended Louisiana Tech University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and social studies education and a master’s degree in English education and has his Master’s +30. Mr. Rivers also has a certification in library science and hours in Adult Education.

Mr. Rivers taught at Rayville High School for 22 years, teaching English I and II, Business English and Spanish I. He also taught 8th grade English and general science at Morehouse Jr. High School in Bastrop for seven years and English and science at the Horace G. White Learning Center in Winnsboro for four years.

Mr. Rivers joined LRTA in 2014, and he currently serves as District IX President. Mr. Rivers is also a member of the LRTA Executive Committee as the District Presidents Representative. He remains involved with his local Unit the Richland Parish Retired Teachers Association, Unit I as president.

In addition to his involvement in the retired educator community, Mr. Rivers remains active in the Rayville community. He is the treasurer of both the Martin Luther King Memorial Society of Rayville and Rayville Beautician Club. He is the past secretary of the Rayville Rosenwald/Eula D. Briton Alumni Association and continues to serve as a board member and their Sergeant-at-Arms.

In 1990, Mr. Rivers was initiated into the Monroe Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. of which he is a life member. He is also a Charter Life Member of the Southwest Province of Kappa Alpha Psi and a Charter member of the Rayville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.

For Kappa Alpha Psi, Mr. Rivers has served as Polemarch, Keeper-of-Records, Province Presenter, Chapter Delegate to National and Province Conventions, and editor of the chapter newsletter.

Mr. Rivers is a member of the Bright Water African Methodist Episcopal Church serving as steward, Sunday School Assistant Superintendent, choir member, treasurer, director of Christian Education, Lay President, Sons-of-Allen leader, and Sunday School teacher. He has been married for 19 years to the former Sylvia Rabun and is the father of Zaire Cleopatra Rivers. Mr. Rivers is an avid woodworker and makes specialty plaques, fraternity and sorority paraphernalia, and sports and college paraphernalia.
