Clyde Hamner retired from the Terrebonne Parish School System after a 33-year career in education. He served as a Middle School Principal, High School Assistant Principal, Calculus and Physics teacher, and as a Marketing Education Coordinator. As an active teacher, Clyde was elected to four terms on the Teacher’s Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) Board of Trustees representing Assumption, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Lafourche, and Terrebonne Parishes and now serves as a state retiree representative on the TRSL Board. In addition, Clyde was a member of the adjunct faculty at Nicholls State University, a LaSIP Teacher Associate with the Louisiana Department of Education, and a member of the Terrebonne Parish School Board Insurance Advisory Committee.

Clyde Hamner has been a member of the LRTA since his retirement, first serving on the LRTA Budget Committee and Legislative Committee. He served as LRTA Second Vice-President from 2020 to 2022 and was chair of the State Program Committee and the State Legislative Committee. He was elected as LRTA First Vice-President in 2022 and is the current Chairman of the State Membership Committee. He has testified in the Louisiana Legislature on bills affecting both current and future retirees and traveled to Washington D.C. to lobby in Congress for the repeal of the WEP and GPO Social Security offsets. At the District level he served as the district 2 Legislative Chairman. In addition, he is active with his local Unit, Terrebonne Retired Teachers Association, as treasurer and member of the TRTA Executive Committee.

Clyde remains active in his community as well. He is currently serving a second term on the Terrebonne Parish School Board where he is Chairman of the Finance, Insurance, and Section 16 Lands Committee and the school board’s Legislative Liaison. In addition, he serves on the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce Education and Community Development Committee and was appointed by the Bishop of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodeaux to serve on the Diocesan Consultative School Board.

Clyde earned dual bachelor’s degrees in accounting/economics and business administration/law from Nicholls State University. He also earned his master’s degree, with honors, from Nicholls State University. Clyde earned his plus 30 graduate hours from Louisiana State University, Nicholls State University, Tulane University and Loyola University.
