Gwile Paul Freeman is a retired Louisiana educator. Her thirty-one year career has included teaching in grades 1-8, adjunct instructor at three universities, librarian, Title I School Improvement Coordinator for the Louisiana Department of Education, junior high school principal, secondary instructional supervisor, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. Her certifications include Elementary Grades, Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance, Supervisor of Student Teaching, Parish or City Supervisor of Instruction, Principal, and School Superintendent. Dr. Freeman’s post-secondary preparation includes a Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from the University of Mississippi. Her professional affiliations include active membership in Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Louisiana Association of Principals (retired), and North Louisiana Retired School Superintendents Association. She is a former member of Louisiana Association of School Executives, Louisiana Association of School Personnel Administrators, Louisiana Association of Principals, and Louisiana Association of School Superintendents. Dr. Freeman has made several visits to Washington, D.C. to represent Louisiana and rural school districts with regard to literacy funding. Dr. Freeman testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies in March 2012, and she spoke at an Advocates for Literacy Briefing in February 2013. In July 2013, Dr. Freeman received the Louisiana Reading Association’s Celebrate Literacy Award. Dr. Freeman enjoys reading and travelling. She is the daughter of the late Clarence M. and Una Paul. Dr. Freeman is married to David Freeman, Jr., and they reside in Harrisonburg, Louisiana.
Dr. Freeman is honored to represent retired educators on the Office of Group Benefits Policy and Planning Board. Dr. Freeman is also currently serving as the President of the North Louisiana Retired School Superintendents Association.
