Melissa was raised with her parents and 5 siblings in DeSoto Parish. She has BS, MEd, and Specialist degrees from Northwestern State University and worked 44 years in public education in Louisiana. She became active in her local retired teachers association upon retiring in 2020.

Melissa currently lives in Winn Parish. She has two sons and is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren.
