Lazette Watterson Named Second Vice President of Louisiana Retired Teachers Association

(Baton Rouge, La.)- Lazette Watterson, a Bogalusa resident, was inaugurated as second vice president of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association on April 25, 2018. In addition, Watterson will serve as the state programs chair.        

As second vice president, she will be responsible for working with the district second vice presidents on program promotion. She will serve as chairman of the Program Committee and preside at meetings in the absence of the president and first vice president.

Watterson was an associate member of LRTA for five years before she retired. LRTA associate members include actively employed teachers, employees of the education community or individuals who may be interested in supporting the causes of retired educators. Watterson is also an active member of the Bogalusa Retired Teachers Association.

Watterson served two terms as president for District III, which encompasses Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. She has also been District III vice president. Previously, she served as the LRTA District President Representative. She is currently a member of both the LRTA Executive Board and Executive Committee.

Watterson earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Library Science from Southern University, where she is a life member of the Alumni Association. She also has a master’s +30 degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. In her spare time, Watterson enjoys cooking, traveling and volunteering.
