Celina Guidry Hallman Richard received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now known as ULL). She obtained 18 hours of graduate work at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. While working as a teacher’s aide during the day, she pursued her educational advancement classes at night at LSUE, USL and summer programs at Northwestern University.
Mrs. Celina is a 2008 retiree with 40 years of service to St. Landry Parish School Board. She worked as a teacher’s aide for six years in St. Landry Parish on the Careers Opportunity Program (COP). She was a dedicated teacher at North Elementary School for 34 years. Mrs. Celina also became an after school tutor through local city guided programs as well as private-personal referrals.
Presently, Mrs. Celina is a member of the Retired Educations Association of St. Landry Parish. She’s been a member for 11 years. She’s also a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She recently completed her second term as first vice president for District V. In addition, she is a member of the National Association of University Women – St. Landry Branch where she served as president for 15 years. In March 2019, she was installed as 2019-2021 president of District V.
Mrs. Celina is a faithful and dedicated member of Greater Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Harry J. Richard, her current pastor. Her services to her church include church clerk, president of the Adult Choir, newly elected president of Matrons Department and member of Women’s Home Mission Society. She is currently working with her pastor and members of the Greater Union BC to meet and make plans to rebuild their church. Greater Union BC was one of three churches burned in St. Landry Parish in April 2019.
Mrs. Celina is also an active member in her community. She works with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) as a contributor. She also works with Christmas in April-Rebuilding Together & St. Landry Inc. Mrs. Celina serves on their Board of Directors.
Although she has no biological children, she is known to have more children than most of us. This includes the children from her church, her school children (now adults) and their children, her nieces and nephews and the children of her closest friends.
